Chocolate Reminisces

Jennifer and I enjoy Dove chocolate miniatures. We originally began with milk chocolate, but soon discovered the dark chocolate. Dove chocolate is very smooth and creamy; very melts in your mouthish. Anyway, each Dove chocolate miniature includes a PROMISES Message inside the foil wrapper for your edification. Think fortune cookie but unspeakably better. Half the fun of consuming Dove chocolate miniatures is finding out what your message says. I bet you didn't know that I look good in red did you?

On one occasion, in a less than chic hotel suite on a cold night in Centennial, Colorado Jennifer found an unusually but pleasantly amusing PROMISES Message. I enjoyed great laughs at her expense; I believe the appropriate word is "guffaw." Unfortunately, we thoughtlessly discarded the foil wrapper and I could not recall the exact phraseology for others to delight in as well. Now, much to Jennifer's chagrin, the elusive PROMISES Message has revealed itself again. This time I was hasty to stash it in my briefcase rather than the rubbish bin so that I could propagate the humor of that moment for others to enjoy; namely Captain Awesome. The PROMISES Message read as follows:

Watch reruns,
they replay
your memories.

I'm sure the Brashares are thinking, "I don't really see why that's funny." Let me ask you this; have you ever had a conversation with yourself about pop culture items from your childhood? Say, television shows, movies, etc.? I will reenact it for you in case you haven't engaged in this activity in a while.

Self-1: Quote from popular late 80's, early 90's movie that does not involve singing animated characters
Self-2: ~Puzzled Look~
Self-1: Have you not seen insert movie title here?
Self-2: No, what is that.
Self-1: You really haven't seen movie title?
Self-2: No.
Self-1: Oh c'mon, everyone has seen movie title.
Self-2: We didn't watch a lot of stuff like that when I was a kid.
Self-1: Yeah, no kidding. You haven't seen movie title. What about insert list of other popular movies from that era, interjected with nos from Self-2.
Self-1: What have you seen?
Self-2: Peter Potty Pan

I would be willing to bet that Captain Awesome has had similar conversations and mareveled at their mere existence. As Jennifer read that PROMISES Message, I snickered and stated her memory was blank. What then ensued would surely and quickly have escalated to long periods of the asphyxiating silent laugh were I a Brashares, but I am not, and that is precisely why I found it to be so amusing.

So, we gave into the chocolate craving yesterday at Target (yay!) and bought some Dove dark chocolate miniatures... and discovered why you guys like them so much - the cheesy sayings inside!! Ok, I admit I really liked the one that said "When two hearts race, both win." :). I've got a soft side too.
